New Jersey’s “post-everything” progressive powerhouse, EAST OF THE WALL, has today released another video from their brand new fourth album, Redaction Artifacts. The song, “Obfuscator Dye,” is the third track from the band’s new opus, which has been garnering near-universal critical acclaim surrounding its release at the end of October. The simplistic but vibrant performance video for the track was filmed by Jolil Ula of Vacant Eye Photography.

Metal Injection is hosting the premiere of “Obfuscator Dye” now AT THIS LOCATION.

Redaction Artifacts can be procured through the usual online retailers such as Amazon and iTunes, and exclusive colors of the vinyl version can be found at scienceofsilence.net.

Following a round of record release shows for the new album, EAST OF THE WALL will be bringing their powerful live performance on the road to the U.S. this Spring and to Europe over the Summer, but for now those local to the band’s home state can catch them at the following shows. Additional live actions for the band will be announced in the weeks ahead.

EAST OF THE WALL Live:

11/22/2013 Court Tavern – New Brunswick, NJ w/ Black Wine, Brick Mower, Risk Relay
11/23/2013 The Saint – Asbury Park, NJ w/ Hammer Fight, Carnavarice Breath, Sydbarret, El Drugstore

“Once again, progressive rock, noise, post-punk, and sludge metal are referenced but never solely relied on in these elastic compositions, instead turning into an adventurous, cohesive whole that blends melody and atonality well, at times beautifully. Like Intronaut, this is wholly unclassifiable music, created and performed with tremendous discipline.” –Decibel

“Without hyperbole, this is the band’s greatest work and one of the finest records of the year. 9.5/10″ – Metal Injection

“Redaction Artifacts is a thoughtful, ear-candy-laced labyrinth with a lot to explore and absorb. This is dense, challenging music, and as impressive as East of the Wall’s releases have been thus far, Redaction Artifacts is certainly their finest album yet.” – No Clean Singing

“…what you would come to expect out of these New Jersey progressive masterminds. Even revamping a line up didn’t allow the music to suffer. East of the Wall have crafted yet another outstanding release that truly highlights the benefits of virtuosic musicianship and creative songwriting. To put it in simple terms, it’s just damn good. 9/10″ – American Aftermath

“East Of The Wall is the intersection of Mastodon earthiness and any-prog-band complexity. Redaction Affairs puts a tighter focus on the former, giving you those lost-in-the-wilderness feels and a sense of disconnect from melody and chord.” – MetalSucks

“…a stunner, a record that surpasses even the great strides of 2011′s The Apologist… working in elements of art rock and prog and hardcore for a final product that dazzles.” – eMusic

“There just isn’t a better example of hall-mark progressive metal for 2013. These amalgamations were superbly sculpted with in studio both recording and rehearsal. East of the Wall again triumph embodying the progressive moniker in name and due diligence. 9.4/10” – HBNBM

“Liken to a first serving of fine whiskey, it may take an open mind open to appreciate something as innovative and complex as it is, but Redaction Artifacts is just a fantastic goddamn Rock and Roll record.”  – Live High Five

This new track, titled “The Fractal Canopy,” contrasts the previously-released singles from Redaction Artifacts by exposing more of EAST OF THE WALL’s melodic side. The eight-minute prog opus, while still retaining the soul of the group’s metallic bite, references the tonal palette of 90s left-of-center alt rock like Failure and Hum as frequently as it calls back to Opeth or Converge.

New Jersey genre-jumping technicians EAST OF THE WALL have released “Arbiters Meet,” the first song from the band’s record upcoming fourth full-length album, Redaction Artifacts. The single is synced to a look into the album’s recording process, using footage that the band took throughout the tracking and mixing sessions.

“Arbiters Meet” is now a featured video at Metal Injection RIGHT HERE.

EAST OF THE WALL is also using this footage to create a series of in-studio mini-documentaries, which will be released in the coming weeks, as Redaction Artifacts nears release on October 29th. The new album was engineered by Eric Rachel (Municipal Waste, God Forbid, Burnt By The Sun, Skid Row) at Trax East, and Todd Hutchinsen (Zud, The Baltic Sea) at Acadia Recording, and mixed by Eric Rachel at Trax East. New Jersey-based progressive metal unit EAST OF THE WALL will be releasing their fourth full-length, Redaction Artifacts, on October 29th, once again through Translation Loss Records.

EAST OF THE WALL’s first record since the departure of bassist Brett Bamberger and guitarist Kevin Conway sees the band’s style expanding into a newer archetype, the sound of Redaction Artifacts surging with a more direct and driving core while the mellower and melodious atmospheres of the songwriting sound more vibrant and cohesive than ever. In Conway and Bamberger’s place, the band’s remaining members — Chris Alfano, who moved from guitar to bass, guitarist/vocalist Matt Lupo, and drummer Seth Rheam — have added Ray Suhy, a jaw-dropping guitar shredder from Portland, Maine, as well as  guitarist/vocalist Greg Kuter, who adds the strongest melodic vocal presence the band has yet had.

Redaction Artifacts is the densest EAST OF THE WALL record to date, with eleven tracks of intricately conceived genre jumping metal. The album was tracked by Eric Rachel (Municipal Waste, God Forbid, Burnt By The Sun, Skid Row) at Trax East, and Todd Hutchinsen (Zud, The Baltic Sea) at Acadia Recording, and mixed by Eric Rachel at Trax East. In addition to the digital and CD versions through Translation Loss, Science Of Silence will be releasing the record on vinyl as a double LP.

Stay tuned for tunes from Redaction Artifacts and more to hit, including the band’s first official video and more. In the meantime fans can check out the cover art and a Youtube trailer for the album and more AT THIS LOCATION.

EAST OF THE WALL will entering the renowned New Brunswick, New Jersey recording studio Trax East on May 27th to begin tracking the band’s next album, Redaction Artifacts, with engineer Eric Rachel (Burnt By The Sun, God Forbid, The Red Chord, Municipal Waste). Mixing is scheduled for mid-July and the album will be released in late October via Translation Loss Records.

Those wishing to hear new material from Redaction Artifacts right now can do so by purchasing the benefit single for the band’s new song, “I’m Always Fighting Drago.” All proceeds go to producer Andrew Schneider, to help him rebuild his studio Translator Audio — the point of conception for previous East Of The Wall albums as well as Made Out Of Babies, Keelhaul, Cave In, Unsane, and more have recorded — which was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. In addition to the new demo for “…Drago” and an acoustic version of the band’s song “Century Of Excellence,” anyone who purchases the benefit single this April will receive links to download two free albums. The first is the new Personnel EP from EOTW guitarist/vocalist Matt Lupo’s solo project Opul. The second is the full-length Understanding Consequences from Day Without Dawn, the short-lived group formed by members of EOTW in 2006 after their previous band The Postman Syndrome disbanded. One last way to hear new EAST OF THE WALL music in advance is to see them live. Tech/prog metal squad EAST OF THE WALL this week transmits the details for their upcoming stateside April tour. Beginning with a home state kickoff show on April 12th, the tour will hit eleven cities across the East Coast and Midwestern U.S. Sponsored by long-running webzine Metal Underground, the trek will see EOTW teamed up with LA-based stoner/groove metal outfit All Hail The Yeti for all shows, with Indiana’s math/experimental metal outfit Exotic Animal Petting Zoo also joining the melee on three dates.

In conjunction with the new tour, EAST OF THE WALL will also issue a high-quality LP pressing of their previously out-of-print debut full-length, Farmer’s Almanac. Initially released on CD through Forgotten Empire Records in 2008, this 2013 edition of the Farmer’s Almanac broadcasts the entire maiden album performed by the band’s earliest lineup and is hitting the streets via EOTW’s cohorts at Nefarious Industries. It has been remastered at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves by Colin Marston, who originally recorded and mixed the album, and supplied guest guitar tracks during the recording sessions. The release will see limited pressings on 180-gram vinyl, with 250 copies on black and 250 on transparent blue, and will include an MP3 download coupon, all housed in a full-color gatefold jacket. Preorders can be placed here.

These updates come just days after EAST OF THE WALL posted a new digital single to benefit Translator Audio, the renowned NYC-based studio where the band and many others including Keelhaul, Unsane, Pelican, Cave In and Rosetta recorded some of their prime albums. EAST OF THE WALL will enter the studio in late Spring to construct their next massive LP for Translation Loss. More info will be announced in the coming weeks. Contact Earsplit PR for all EOTW press inquiries including previews and live coverage of the upcoming tour.

February 21st, 2013

New Jersey progressive metal unit EAST OF THE WALL has posted a new digital single to benefit Translator Audio, the renowned NYC-based studio having been completely destroyed when Hurricane Sandy blasted the East Coast in October. Translator Audio was the place countless bands have recorded some of their most impressive material, including Keelhaul, Unsane, Pelican, Cave In, Made Out Of Babies, Rosetta, and more, including where EAST OF THE WALL recorded their commended 2011-released The Apologist LP.

In order to raise money for the studio’s reconstruction fund, EAST OF THE WALL is releasing a demo of a track scheduled for the group’s yet-to-be-recorded upcoming album, which will be released later this year via Translation Loss Records.

The track, titled “I’m Always Fighting Drago,” is the first to feature EAST OF THE WALL’s revamped lineup, which still includes drummer Seth Rheam, guitarist/vocalist Matt Lupo, and guitarist/vocalist Chris Alfano, yet sees new guitarist Ray Suhy and guitarist/vocalist Greg Kuter filling the holes left by departing members Brett Bamberger (bass/vocals) and Kevin Conway (guitar/vocals).

Suhy (also guitarist for The Baltic Sea) has been performing and writing with EOTW for over a year, first as a touring guitarist, and then joining as a full member when Conway left the band last April. Shortly afterwards, Bamberger left the band to join Revocation full-time. After some restructuring, Alfano moved to bass and Kuter was added, completing the lineup, and in the process adding the strongest melodic vocal element the band has ever produced.

The new demo can be streamed exclusively at MetalSucks, and those interested in helping Translator Audio can purchase the digital single in lossless audio from Bandcamp for $3 (although those wishing to donate more can do so).

Included with the single for “I’m Always Fighting Drago” is an acoustic/vocal cover of “Century Of Excellence,” a song from EAST OF THE WALL’s first album, Farmer’s Almanac, performed by Larry Chiswick (Vehicle For Blackness, ex-All Parallels)

Stream and purchase the “I’m Always Fighting Drago” single and donate to Translator Audio via MetalSucks RIGHT HERE.

EAST OF THE WALL will enter the studio in late Spring, but will be road testing the new lineup and material on a short string of tour dates to be announced shortly.

February 2nd, 2012

Following the release of their third LP, The Apologist, New Jersey-based quintet EAST OF THE WALL have just confirmed a month-long tour of the country this March and into April.

Having already endured a rigorous self-booked trek of America in the Fall months, this second wave of touring in support of The Apologist will see EAST OF THE WALL laying down their oppressively technical wall of progressive metal dissonance alongside Black Tusk for the entire trek. Performances with Prong, Skeletonwitch, Royal Thunder, Intronaut, Gaza and more killer acts fuel the tour as well. A full list of confirmed dates is listed below, with more to be confirmed and added in the days ahead.

Following years of booking their own shows and tours, EAST OF THE WALL have recently partnered with The Pantheon Agency, and through this new alliance the band plan on dominating stages for the rest of 2012.

Recorded by Andrew Schneider at Translator Audio in Brooklyn (Cave In, Pelican, Keelhaul, Unsane, Rosetta), The Apologist undoubtedly portrays the most challenging and groundbreaking EAST OF THE WALL tunes yet, with incredible response from magazines, local newspapers, blogs and through diehard metal and progressive fanbases across the globe still coming in. Released in late October, the CD/digital release of the album was handled by Translation Loss and the 2xLP via Antithetic Records.

“Imagine the metallic flourishes of the math-rock band Don Caballero lasting much longer, the bombastic gruff of Botch injected with melody, and some super-tight, jazz-inspired guitar work.” – NPR

“…an exemplary bit of complexity dominated by hardcore roars (sometimes ganged) and the all-but inevitable hammerfall–instrumental filligree encircles vocal harmonies like a network of fast-growing sentient vines.” – Decibel

“…one of those albums you have to hear to believe. 10/10″ – American Aftermath

“… the same wonky, jazzy, proggy via post-hardcore East of the Wall-isms… but done in new ways, evolved to the next level, more ambitious.” – MetalSucks

“It’s progressive metal in the truest sense of the word. This album is as raw and musically uncompromising as they come.” – Alternative Matter

Set for release on October 25th on CD/digital via Translation Loss and 2xLP via Antithetic Records, the textured madness was recorded by Andrew Schneider at Translator Audio in Brooklyn (Cave In, Pelican, Keelhaul, Unsane, Rosetta), and surges with nearly fifty minutes of EAST OF THE WALL’s trademark challenging progressive metallic prowess.

“Imagine the metallic flourishes of the math-rock band Don Caballero lasting much longer, the bombastic gruff of Botch injected with melody, and some super-tight, jazz-inspired guitar work.” – NPR

“‘The Apologist has a very straight forward production that focuses the attention to the miracles that are worked in terms of melody and rhythm. It is by far the best East of the Wall have made… A new star in the post-metal sky.” – Lords of Metal

“Melodic, slick, clearly jazz-influenced and wonderfully emotion-hewn, this instrumental section clashes naturally with more technical post-metal-isms later in the same song, but East Of The Wall have the talent to pull it off, whether indulging in softness, harshness, or both together.” – Metal Reviews
